Biography
Mekratingrum Hapsari, known as Mike, is a choreographer and performance artist based in Solo, Indonesia. Her work begins with attention: to small shifts, ordinary gestures, and the timing of everyday life. She is interested in how movement can hold a memory, or a feeling, without needing to explain it in words. Much of her practice unfolds slowly, staying with the body while it listens, repeats, and lets something surface in its own time. She does not aim to give answers through her work. Instead, she opens a space where something unfinished can be felt, and sometimes, gently returned to. Off stage, she describes herself as someone who tends toward indifference, and her work often becomes the place where that indifference is questioned, softened, or better understood. For Mike, choreography is a way of staying close to what is easy to overlook, and trusting that it still matters. Nothing in her process is rushed.

Artist statement
I work with the body as a way to understand what is happening in the present. My practice grows from paying attention to small shifts, gestures, and timing. I am interested in how movement can hold experience without needing to explain it. Through choreography, I try to stay with the body where its listening, repeating, and allowing something to appear slowly. My work does not aim to give answers, but to open a space where the body can be felt more clearly.
